Chemistry begins where different elements interact

Alchemist’s mission is to combine high fashion with an ethical lifestyle, as founder Caroline Mewe believes that fashion and ethical business practices are equally important. But can sustainable fashion really still surprise people? Of course it can! “Bold trousers made of refined organic cotton - aren’t they amazing?!” Alchemist aims to inspire, not dictate. No person or thing is an isolated phenomenon. Chemistry begins where different elements interact.

Our story

August 26, 2016 | Caroline Mewe

We combine high fashion with an ethical lifestyle. Over the years, in our visits to our production partners, we’ve met some fantastic people all over the world. Every day we feel blessed to have the opportunity to be inspired again and again. We’ve learned that people are the same all over the world. People seem to worry about the same things, and people seem to be happy about the same things as well. For all these people, and for our children, we shall always commit ourselves to designing and creating with the greatest possible respect for people and the environment. We are a proud member of the Fair Wear Foundation.

Everyone matters

Connected

“We, the people are fully connected with all the life surrounding us! And these individual connections make us and the system as a whole influence each other all the time, whether we want them to or not. To me, that’s a lovely and encouraging perspective, as it means that everyone ‘matters’ and can make a creative contribution to the challenges of our time!

No one is without power.

As a consumer for example, you can exercise your power in your purchasing decisions. I often ask myself the question: Is it good for me AND good for my environment? It can only be called sustainable if the answer to that question is yes.”

Recycled Denim

Your favourite pair of worn out jeans can be recycled to make something new. Like a beautiful yarn that we use to knit with. Recycling reduces waste, saves energy, and reduces the consumption of raw materials. In the year 2015 we've produced 1,6% of our Volume in Recycled Denim.

100% linen

About linen

Basically our designs will as much as possible be produced of natural fibers, like 100% linen. Linen scores relatively high on ecological factors. Flax is a natural product that does not require irrigation during growth, and needs little or no chemical treatment. All parts of the plant are used, so there is no waste. Linen fabric is 100% biodegradable and recyclable. The environmental impact of spinning and weaving flax is virtually zero. In the year 2015 we've produced 6,3% of our Volume in Linen.
